Will the Kingdom be affected by a heat wave with the autumnal equinox?
Arab Weather - Meteorologists at the Arab Weather Center said that the latest weather maps indicate that the Kingdom will be affected during the first week of the autumnal equinox by the first extension of the Red Sea thermal depression. This typically leads to a significant rise in temperatures, exceeding their expected levels by more than 4 degrees Celsius, coinciding with the blowing of easterly winds, God willing.
In detail, Jordan will be affected on Saturday and Sunday by a dry extension of the Red Sea depression, with temperatures gradually rising to around two degrees Celsius above average. During the day, the weather will be relatively hot across the Kingdom, and hot in the desert areas, the Jordan Valley, the Dead Sea, and Aqaba. Winds will change direction to moderate easterly with active gusts in some areas.
The Red Sea depression will deepen midweek, with a significant rise in temperatures.
The Red Sea depression will deepen its influence on the Kingdom on Monday and Tuesday, bringing in more hot air currents from the south. This will push temperatures further above their normal range by 4-6 degrees Celsius. Astronomically, the weather will be closer to summer in the fall, with relatively hot conditions prevailing in the mountains and hot to extremely hot conditions in the Jordan Valley and Dead Sea regions. Winds will be moderate southeasterly with active gusts in some areas.
Temperatures will reach the mid-30s in large areas of the Kingdom on the first days of autumn.
Temperatures on Monday and Tuesday are expected to hover around the mid-30s Celsius in several Jordanian towns and cities, including the eastern neighborhoods of the capital, Amman. They will reach and possibly exceed 40 Celsius in the Jordan Valley and Dead Sea regions, several degrees Celsius higher than their climatic average.
Will Jordan be affected by a heat wave as temperatures are expected to rise?
Despite the significant rise in temperatures over the coming days, Jordan will not be affected by a heat wave in the strict scientific sense, as the meteorological conditions necessary to define a heat wave have not been met. Scientific criteria require temperatures to remain above normal for a sustained period. Therefore, the situation does not meet the scientific criteria, as temperatures are expected to drop significantly again in the second half of next week, God willing, and especially towards the end of it.
And God knows best.
